Social Skills are foundational skills. They allow us to learn from others and connect with the world.
We draw on Applied Behavior Analysis and over fifteen years of early child hood experience to help your child progress towards age appropriate social skills through a fun, nurturing, step by step program.
“The purpose of life is to discover your gift. The work of life is to develop it. The meaning of life is to give your gift away.” -David Viscott
Social Skills are a set of behaviors allow us to learn from, and interact with others in ways that enrich their lives and ours.
Basic Social Skills include approaching peers and others, accepting preferred items and toys, making eye contact, requesting desired items (using sign or vocalization), and attending. These skills are the first we teach because they are foundation skills.
We focus on teaching skills that will open up a wider world to your child, and allow their unique set of strengths to shine through.
Once your child masters basic social skills, we build on them to teach many other skills, including basic conversations, interacting and playing with others, following directions, and generalizing learned skills to new environments.
We offer three levels of social skills classes.
Each class builds on the skills gained in the previous class. When you enroll your child in a social skills class, we consult with you, in person or by phone, and ask you to fill out a brief survey to determine which class will best serve your child’s needs.
We structure our classes to promote learning and generalization.
We understand how important it is for your child to practice skills with a variety of people and in a variety of settings. Every class includes basic skills training for caregivers so that you can take your child’s learning “on the road”.
Your child will have opportunities in every class to participate in group activities, play alongside others, learn to play cooperatively, and benefit from 1:1 attention from our instructors.
Our small classes are staffed by highly experienced and qualified instructors.
We adjust our teaching to ensure that every child makes as much progress as possible. We do this by taking data and notes on each child’s progress in each and every class. We take the time to compare notes and make modifications as needed.
Most importantly-we have FUN.
Children learn best when they are relaxed, motivated, and interested in the people and things around them. Building on fifteen years of early childhood and special needs experience, we understand that each child is unique. We want to learn what your child enjoys and, whenever possible, incorporate these preferences into classes.
We look forward to meeting your family and child!
